The Old Days

Adam called to today to tell me he had an old favorite of our's stuck in his head. This little gem by The Shamen.

That got me thinking about old alternative songs/videos. It also gave me an excuse to post some of my favorites.

Shamen - Josh didn't mention that without Googling the lyrics, I could remember a whole verse of this nonsense. Dammough!

Matthew Sweet - I've just been listening to 100% Fun. He's so good.

R.E.M. - I choose to remember this album as their last album. No post-Out Of Time single can make up for the deep album atrocities this band has given us from Monster to the present.

I had Matthew Sweet in the studio a few months back and he was wonderful. A few new ones and a great version of "I've Been Waiting."
He is a great example of someone who was a big name during the golden age and who just fell off the map in the post "Dookie" wave of dogshit that took over radio.

As far as R.E.M.-It's just depressing. There are 2-3 good songs on each album after "Automatic For The People." Two to three for chrissakes. If you put all those good songs together it still wouldn't make a great record. It would be a good record. For this band though, that isn't good enough though. For those that may want to check out the ones that don't blow goats in the R.E.M. phase three era...

Electrolite
The Great Beyond
Imitation Of Life
Let Me In
At My Most Beautiful
Supernatural Super Serious
Daysleeper
Until The Day Is Done
Strange Currencies
Bittersweet Me
Hollow Man

Those would be the ones to download.

Newsflash though, these is nothing that compares to "Nightswimming," "Pretty Persuasion," "Gardening At Night," "Country Feedback" or "World Leader Pretend." Der.

This Just In, if I bought Josh's
R.E.M. Phase III compilation, I would still think it was a complete waste. Bill Berry's aneurysm was probably his head just exploding as he realized the steep dive that band took from Automatic to Monster. He knew where that band was heading and he got the hell out. Good for him.

p.s. the joke about the aneurysm is only possible because he's fully recovered.

You make fun of people with brain problems? For shame. Your punishment is listening to "Up" by R.E.M. three times in a row.

You've got brain problems. You eat $5 Wal-Mart brand pizza and think it's good. Dang.

You haven't even had it wank. It's good so shut your hole. Also, At My Most Beautiful is one of the best songs R.E.M. have ever done. Yeah, I said it.
